Recently, the People’s Daily Online Research Institute for Finance held a Jintai Roundtable on “Development Paths and Policy Responses for the Low-Altitude Economy from the Perspective of New‑Type Productive Forces,” inviting representatives from government, industry, academia, research institutions, and end‑users to discuss how to accelerate the agglomeration effects and innovation ecosystems of the low‑altitude economy, while offering recommendations to promote its high‑quality development. Li Ye, Chairman of Weihang Technology, attended the event and delivered a speech.

In his remarks, Li also pointed out that the key technical challenges in developing powered aerial vehicles for low‑altitude airspace lie in insufficient payload capacity and limited endurance. Only by making concerted efforts in aircraft design, propulsion, and power systems can we create new‑generation electric aircraft that rival conventional aviation platforms in performance. Currently, several companies are vigorously advancing their capabilities in low‑altitude flight technology, striving to achieve substantial improvements in payload capacity, safety, and overall aircraft dimensions.

To better align low‑altitude flight products with market needs, three key areas of effort must be strengthened: First, advance critical technologies by fostering interdisciplinary applications and accelerating R&D—integrating fields such as fluid dynamics, new energy technologies, large‑scale models, and communications—to develop integrated, cross‑disciplinary solutions that address core technological bottlenecks. Second, enhance government guidance and ensure the effective implementation of demonstration‑driven policies. Particularly in scenarios where there is genuine demand, once governments at all levels determine that relevant aviation‑related products offer viable alternatives, they should bolster support and market orientation, with a focus on refining and完善ing the policy framework for procuring such aviation products. Third, safety is the non‑negotiable bottom line of the aviation industry; it underpins its very survival and shapes its future prospects, and must be rigorously safeguarded.
